In the 1600s, the Sanderson sisters bewitched people. The three aging women, lusty Sarah, portly Mary, and gross leader Winifred, were particularly fond of performing a determined spell that would hold them alive and young forever, with inform exhaust of course. Unfortunately, that particular spell required a living child as the key ingredient! One fateful Halloween night, that dreadful honor went to adorable slight Emily Binx, sister of teenaged Thackery, who immediately ran to his sibling’s benefit when he heard she’d been lured by Sarah Sanderson to the witches’ home in the woods. This was not a well concept out opinion though, and the cost was not only the life of his sister Emily, but his maintain humanity as well. Emily’s lifeforce was drained from her body by the three Sanderson witches, and big-brother Thackery Binx was transformed into an immortal dark cat, cursed to live forever with the guilt of his failure to put his sister! Luckily for the rest of the children of Salem, the Sanderson sisters were captured that night and hung for their crimes, but not before their living book of spells revealed to them a curse to bring the three abet from the tedious on All Hallow’s Eve when a virgin lights the sunless flame candle.

300 years later, teenager Max Dennison is a newcomer to Salem, struggling to adjust after growing up in a California lifestyle. It isn’t going well for Max. Bullies are stealing his sneakers apt off his feet, the girl of his dreams snubs him due to his lack of interest in Halloween, and his cramped sister, Dani, is ever the pest. Now, he must consume the evening escorting her door to door for trick or treating while their parents like the town Halloween dance. Things are about to go from dreadful to worse for Max, however. Unbiased when he believes things are looking up after he and Dani convince dream-girl Allison to remove them to the weak Sanderson house, Max’s efforts to imprint the girl lead him to light the black-flame candle himself, bringing Sarah, Mary, and Winifred Sanderson assist from the humdrum! From there on out, it’s a non-stop, fun-filled lunge as the witches pursue the children, distinct to obtain sassy-mouthed Dani the subject of their next youth spell, which must be performed before dawn or else the witches will be gone forever! With the immortal, talking unlit cat Binx guiding them along, Max, Dani, and Allison work together to outrun, outwit, and outlast the despicable trio and their magical arsenal, with the fate of all the children of Salem hanging in the balance!

In “Hocus Pocus,” director Kenny Ortega, who also gave us the equally underrated and luscious cult-classic “Newsies,” brings us a perfect Halloween movie that’s actually broad fun any time of year! With a extraordinary cast headed up by the legendary Bette Midler and “Eerie Indiana’s” Omri Katz, awesome music (Hey, Disney, where’s the soundtrack?!), a hilarious script that incorporates all the Halloween essentials, and colorful special effects, “Hocus Pocus” easily ranks as one of my celebrated films of all-time! Moments such as the bus journey, the encounter with the motorcycle cop, the visit to the Master’s house, and, of course, the Sanderson sisters performing “I Place a Spell On You” at the town party honest compose this movie fun, fun, fun! The witches may be creepy at times and totally hazardous, but they have a Three Stooges vibe going throughout that keeps things from getting too scary. However, this film CAN be a bit mighty for younger kids. Yes, despite feeling generally like a typical Disney live-action flick from the `90s (a enormous time for Disney live-action), there are some surprising moments. The witches do off diminutive Emily in the beginning of the film by stealing her “essence,” they do exhaust some aloof swearing and the virgin joke is unnecessarily hammered into the ground, and, yeah, some folks might get definite aspects scary, but only the very young I’d wager. Basically, this film was targeted at `tweens and teens, and, had they gone to study it, it would probably have been a hit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t till bid airings on the Disney Channel that most people discovered this gem of a holiday film. As for me, I saw it in theaters and am so cheerful I did! I wish we’d score more Halloween films like this one! This is how I like to gaze witches on Halloween! Cackling, riding brooms across the sky, and hunting trick or treaters! That’s the belief of Halloween witches that timid me as a kid, and that’s what I’d like to scrutinize more of in Halloween films today! The DVD is sadly bare-bones. Totally disappointing for such a spectacular cult classic! Aloof, it is without a doubt a must bear for annual viewings at the very least!

For more must glimpse Halloween viewing, check out “It’s the Sizable Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” “Sleepy Hollow,” “Ichabod and Mr. Toad,” the current “The Worst Witch,” “Garfield Holiday Celebrations,” the Casper, Addams Family, and Harry Potter films, “Return to Oz,” “Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Pumpkin Who Couldn’t Smile,” “The Night Dracula Saved the World,” “The Monster Squad,” “Ernest Worried Monotonous,” “The Witches,” “Exasperated Monster Party,” “Spaced Invaders,” “Admire At First Bite,” “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” and glance my Halloween listmania lists for more! Also, for more immense `90s Disney live-action films, check out the Remarkable Ducks film series, “The Adventures of Huck Finn,” “Dick Tracy,” “Icy Runnings,” “Newsies,” “Tom and Huck,” the “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” films, “101 Dalmatians,” “Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book,” “The Santa Clause,” “Tom and Huck,” “White Fang,” “Heavyweights,” “The Rocketeer,” “Three Musketeers,” “Iron Will,” and more! But don’t forget about classic Disney live-action either, or their grand `80’s stuff, like my number one well-liked film, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit!” With substantial fresh stuff like “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” “Holes,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and the upcoming “Chronicles of Narnia,” it seems that Disney live-action is detached going strong!

This movie is criminally underrated. First of all, the film wasn’t the flop people consider it is. It did over 45 million at the box office. Okay, that settled, let’s dig in. Three witches from the 1800’s are hung for taking the souls out of children in Salem, Mass. Explain day Salem, a lonely teen resurrects the three hags accidentally while visiting their mature cottage that has turned into a mini museum. The witches, well cast and perfectly played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, area out on Halloween night to capture the souls from the children as they trick or treat. The three lead actresses are perfect in their roles. They really bring them to life. This is a fun, light hearted film that the whole family can delight in. The setting and decoration is perfect and has that tall Halloweeny feel. There’s also a comic cameo by Penny Marshall and Garry Marshall as husband and wife(but who are loyal life brother and sister in case you didn’t know) . This is a staunch sizable vehicle for Bette Midler. She fits perfectly. You’ll also stare Thora Birch(American Beauty) as the minute sister. The film is a incredible family treat that will delight and entertain the whole family.

I played the role of Marshallene in “Urban Cowboy” and so to respond one of your reviewers, what was Sissy’s last name? well here is the device it was. We didn’t have last names; at least not assigned to us when we got our scripts. I actually made mine up when I needed one quick in the Dolly Parton Look-a-like contest. You might seize that Marshallene was caught in the trailer with Wes, the convict. This film is such a “cult celebrated” that it plays every day somewhere;my residuals attest to the fact that this film is loved by many. It made a fashion statement, (people went out and bought jeans and hats and boot and belts) it gave a boost to the Club business – where more and more C/W clubs sprang up all over the country and Canada. I had a motor coach bus and opened shows for Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee and others for about 8 years – well into the tedious 80’s. It was a magical time for all of us! It was a fun time for me and for fans. This movie is legendary and will last well beyond. Hope you bask in viewing it as noteworthy as I enjoyed playing in it.By the plan, there are a lot of versions of it. The edited for TV version actually is so different – (I have several more scenes in it) – and it shows Sissy and Bud actually”dating” before they got married. The scenes were shot on situation on the grass of Buffalo Bayou in Houston, Texas. I actually like that version because the modern had them meeting one night at Gilley’s and getting married the next afternoon!!!Connie Hanson

Although many folks laught this flick off, I have to admit that I am extremely fond of “Urban Cowboy.” My wife and I explore it unbiased about every time it comes on television. Granted, Bud slaps around Sissy and that may turn off some folks, but deep inside, there is more savor between those characters than most of the couples in film and television these days.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Urban Cowboy! Click Here

With a giant honky-tonk as the critical setting, you pick up the expected rowdy crowds and rambunctious country music needed to state the stage. The entire epic revolves around the trials and tribulations of a young couple brought together by the bull…mechanical bull that is, and how they’re almost torn apart by it. They find “Bud” and “Sissy” license plates for Bud’s truck. They are cheerful over a recent trailer house. They are pure white trash, and I love’em for it. Luminous characters such as Bud’s aunt and uncle, Gator, the ex-con Wes, Jessie, Mickey Gilley and even the Charlie Daniel’s Band do for a mammoth movie. You couldn’t get a film about a honky-tonk these days with characters like that. First of all, you’d madden someone for making the working man see like an idiot. Secondly, people will wail about spousal abuse. Lastly, there aren’t many precise country stars like they had assist in those days. Can you imagine Tim McGraw onstage with relieve hair coming out of his vest instead of the incomparable Johnny Lee? I consider not.

Others say the acting is abominable, that may be, but it is so unpleasant that it is fabulous to scrutinize on shroud. Travolta’s bathtub scene where he fusses at Sissy(Debra Winger) for not being home when he needs her is fair hilarious. Winger is at her sexiest as the somewhat tomboyish Sissy. She’s probably the main reason I discover this movie over and over. When Bud’s aunt enters the Dolly Parton lookalike contest, her entire character becomes the focus of the film for a few brief, droll moments. Barry Corbin was perfectly cast as Bud’s well-meaning uncle. You couldn’t have picked a better cast.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Urban Cowboy! Click Here

Also, the characters are true. Admit it, you’ve seen a drunk guy at the local bar tumble off of his barstool. In this movie, Gator objective happens to plunge off of a mechanical bull. There are always one or two fights at the bar. Also, I’ve seen plenty of exasperated drunks at the local Pitt Grill(an after-honky-tonk hangout with a tremendous breakfast buffett at 3AM) throw fits like Bud did when Sissy gets a hat tipped to her by Wes.

Watch this movie for the time bound it is. It’s a perfect rainy-day, holdin’ you’re better half type of movie. Add it to your collection now.

Average customer review:

The Hustler is available for streaming or downloading.

Many people who saw the slick and stylish Scorcese creation Color of Money didn’t even realize that Eddie Felson already existed on the silver veil in The Hustler. What many people train me when they bag out and gawk The Hustler is that either they hated it or loved it. That’s because while Color of Money is still, slick, still, and polished, The Hustler is raw, biting, and much and so by definition it is not for everyone. Color of Money is more about visual effects and music, which is classic Scorcese, though there’s no trusty substance. Scorcese himself has said in interviews that movies like Goodfellas were halt to his heart, but Color of Money was unbiased a commercialized creation.

The Hustler, on the other hand, really grabs you. First off, as a pool player myself, let me sigh you Tom Soar can’t play pool worth a damn, and that lack of authenticity is a glaring weakness to start with. But fair the fact that Newman and Gleason can play pool does not perform The Hustler a better movie – it’s a masterpiece because it is a absorbing sage of human redepmption, of Eddie’s battle to separate his pool game from his self-esteem. It’s also about one man’s passion for the game. How can any pool player forget that soliloquoy by Posthaste Eddie when he and Sarah go for that picnic, how he talks about how he loves even impartial the sound of the click of the balls, how the cue has nerves in it and is share of his arm!

Remember that last scene in Color of Money, where young cocky Vincent plays the older, cagier Expeditiously Eddie and Eddie declares “I’m abet” before he breaks the balls? Even though the movie ends there, everyone knows Eddie wiped up the floor with Vincent. Vincent’s character had talent, but Eddie had character, and that’s what beat Expeditiously Eddie time he played Fats.

Bert Gordon: You got talent.

Fast Eddie: I got talent? So what beat me?

Bert: Character.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Hustler! Click Here

And that’s the arrangement the two movies are too. Color of Money has talent, but The Hustler has character.

The Hustler spotlights one of Paul Newman’s finest performances in his portrayal of Hasty Eddie Felson, an arrogant, amoral pool hustler who’s distinct to be the greatest pool player in the country by beating the legendary Minnesota Fats (played flawlessly by Jackie Gleason) .

The film is a gritty, uncompromising character contemplate and tragic savor record that is plot in the world of pool hustlers. Piper Laurie; as an alcoholic floozy who falls hard for Like A Flash Eddie; and George C. Scott as the frosty hearted manipulative gambler, Bert Gordon,– contribute two additional flawless supporting performances. It was directed by the controversial Robert (All the King’s Men) Rossen (he resisted but eventually named names during the base blacklist of the 50’s) .

The film focuses on the arrogant, unsympathetic exploits of a con man as he uses his charm, looks and pool playing skills to hustle enough money to challenge Minnesota Fats, only to be humiliated in defeat. As ‘Fast Eddie’ attempts to raise money for a re-match, he meets and almost falls in savor with Sarah a fellow alcoholic. At first Rapidly Eddie refuses to be managed by Bert Gordon, but after a pool hall hustle ends up with Quickly Eddie having his thumbs broken, he reconsiders. Before the re-match with Minnesota Fats, a warm up high stakes game in Louisville has tragic consequences.

The film dares to focus on a-typical anti-hero characters who live by amoral codes. Very limited Hollywood style gloss is to be found anywhere in this stylistic gritty masterpiece which afflict up being nominated for 10 Academy Awards (West Side Account won most of them that year) . Cinematographer Eugene Shufftan deservedly won an Oscar for his moodily lit, resplendent dusky and white images. Harry Horner’s and Gene Callahan’s intricately art direction, production execute and plot decoration were also awarded with Oscars. Pool chronicle Willie Mosconi taught Newman how to notice and act the piece of a pool hustler and also made Newman’s trick shots in the film. Jackie Gleason was already an profitable pool player. There really was an Aames pool hall in Recent York City and it is faded for the film’s most riveting scenes. Boxer Jake LaMotta (of ‘Raging Bull’ fame) plays a bartender in the film.

Director Rossen who began his career as a screenwriter made only one other film (1964’s Lilith) after ‘The Hustler’. Rossen died in 1966. Martin Scorcese directed the 1986 sequel Color of Money, with Newman reprising his Speedily Eddie role (and this time Newman won a best Actor Oscar for his efforts) as he teaches an up and coming hustler (Tom Flit) the ropes. The sequel doesn’t arrive terminate to being as excellent as the fresh (despite its stylistic flourishes, cast and director) .

Interesting to sign that the characters in The Hustler were fictitious and an above average pool player legally changed his name to Minnesota Fats AFTER the film was released. The steady life ‘Minnesota Fats’ eventually played a nationally televised (hosted by Howard Cosell) pool exhibition with William Mosconi in the 1970’s more than 10 years after this 1961 film.

DVD IMAGE AND SOUND

The film has been digitally re-mastered in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The films looks to be in superb shape with very tiny print injure observed. The glance of the film is smoky and gritty and the shadow details are rich indicating strong dusky levels expose. This is a very enchanting looking dim and white film. The sound will not heed but the dialogue, sound effects and occasional music is crisp and usually centered..

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Hustler! Click Here

DVD EXTRA’S

In addition to two trailers for the film, there are a few spirited featurettes some production stills and the splendid commentary track.

Richard Schickel hosts the too short documentary The Hustler: The Inside Yarn which gives us some details on how the film came to be made, and delivers some we were there stories from some of the film-makers and a few surprise guests.

“How to Execute the Shot,” and “Trick Shot Analysis by World Artistic Champion, Mike Massey”

are two shorts demonstrating and showing viewers how to compose some trick shots on the pool table.

There is a expedient commentary track which features the reminisces, and perspectives from actors: Paul Newman, and Stefan Gierash (Preacher), Dede Allen (film editor), Ulu Grosbard (assistant director), Carol Rossen (the director’s daughter), Richard Schickel (film critic, Time), and Jeff Young (film historian) . The comments hide all aspects of the making of the film. Newman’s comments as one might examine are few.

The film looks and sounds expansive, the extras compliment the classic film very well. Along with Hud, and Nobody’s Fool, The Hustler has, what for me, is one of the three best Newman performances on film. Considering the supporting cast are helpful, there’s puny for anyone to fault with this film.

Christopher J. Jarmick, is the author of The Glass Cocoon with Serena F. Holder a critically acclaimed, steamy suspense thriller…

The movie “Butterflies are Free” is a comedy/drama which is an conventional popular of mine that I have seen in various forms on TV and video for a number of years.I am very jubilant now that it has finally been place out on DVD.This is basically a filmed play (with a couple of added scenes to “start it up”) which explores the meaning of concepts like freedom and independence within the framework of a esteem sage. The sage takes state in a San Fransisco loft during those heady, ‘groovy’ days of flower power.Don Baker (Played by Edward Albert) is young man, blind from birth, who is trying for the first time to rupture away from his overbearing mother’s apron strings by living on his contain. One day he meets his unique neighbor, Jill, a young, commitment free hippie and wanna-be actress. At first she is freaked out by Don’s blindness, but soon they are “getting it on” and she spends the night. The next morning their limited private, three room Eden is invaded, when Don’s mother barges in unannounced, with the plot of taking her son home.It is within this scenerio that the three characters roar, argue and pontificate about such concepts as ‘freedom’, ‘independence’, ‘commitment’,'love’ and finally ‘letting go’.They all learn a diminutive bit about themselves and the changes they must fabricate to earn on with their lives. This is really a astounding, comic movie that has a lot of heart. The three lead actors do a simply extraordinary job with their roles.Goldie Hawn is in all her giggly, post “Laugh-In” splendor.Underneath the bubbly persona she shows us a character, who is emotionally crippled and must learn not to be unnerved of being loved.Edward Albert does a splendid job as the blind, young man who is fighting for his independence. But the trusty scene stealer is Eileen Heckart (who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this role) who is brilliantly humorous as an overbearing, cynical, mother, who obviously loves her son, but must collect a device to let go. The script by Lenord Gershe is very hasty and comic featuring hilarious exchanges between Albert, Hawn and Heckart’s characters. It is filled with lots of one liners that remind me a bit of the funny style of playright, Neil Simon and his comedies such as “The Uncommon Couple” and “The Sunshine Boys”.Some of the hippie, flower power references and language in the movie are a bit dated, but I assume it adds a touch of charm and quaintness to the script.Milton Katselas’s direction of this film is a puny stagey, but it does not detract as the chronicle progresses. The DVD presentation is very sure and the sound quality is not dreadful for a film from 1972.My only true complaint is that the DVD features bonus trailers, but not for this movie (at least two out of three of them are for passe Goldie Hawn films) .For an evening of humorous, yet conception provoking entertainment I highly recommend this film.

Not a awful admire narrative if one doesnt select it too seriously. We tend to forget that Goldie Hawn archaic to act in some very agreeable movies at one time. She manages to shine in this charming but unoriginal romance between a flower child and a dazzling young blind man played by Edward Albert, seeking independence from his over protective mother. The memoir is area in the Haight-Ashbury location of San Francisco during the early seventies prior to Watergate and delighted rights and the onslaught of AIDS.

Eileen Heckart gives a memorable and touching performance as the mother and well deserved her best-supporting-actress oscar that year. There is a fabulous scene where Goldie first meets Donnys mother in his apartment in the most evil of circumstances. In her underwear!Enough said. Not exactly Shakespeare but it will maintain your interest, and besides theres a pleased ending…

My seven-year-old son and I faithfully watched this series when it aired on Jetix, and I waited a long time for the series to be released on DVD. Here’s what makes it so good:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Oban Star-Racers, Vol. 2: The Oban Cycle! Click Here

The animation is top-notch, as is the voice-acting. The characterizations are believable, consistent, and complex. The sterling guys face choices that aren’t clear-cut or necessarily daring, and the antagonists, with the exception of one or two 100% rank characters, have their bear issues that can build them more sympathetic, if not exactly rootable.

This state arc, more than that of the Alwas cycle, is suspenseful and almost never cliched. The surprises are thought-provoking and emotional. Even my son, who is not usually mammoth on female protagonists, was moved. I bought this series on dvd, because my son and I like to rewatch it regularly, because the residence is deep and complex enough to offer modern information to him as he gets obsolete enough to accumulate it, and because the anecdote is poignant and on-message for how I want my son to inspect the world someday.

The series maintains its consistency for the second half in glowing noteworthy every blueprint. The field is smaller this time as we change venues to Oban itself, and the nature of the races change along with it. This works dazzling well as it gives the series some diversity. Each hasten in this volume also takes region in a different set, so the courses change quite a bit. Pitting all the racers against one another in each urge made it quite though-provoking, and the venues introduced in this volume is really quite current.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Oban Star-Racers, Vol. 2: The Oban Cycle! Click Here

A number of narrative elements from the last volume become more critical in this one, including the reasoning unhurried the sabotage and the murky forces Rick discovered arrive the raze of the last volume. The tale certainly certainly takes some more dramatic and darker turns in this volume as well, but it quiet stays in the family superior territory. The series doesn’t try to hide distress and loss, but it does display it in a method that isn’t going to heavily impact younger viewers.

This volume presented a few twists that I didn’t gaze coming, and I particularly liked that. Generally shows of this nature have a distinct predictability to them, and while this is aloof sometimes the case, this series serene is able to avoid that trap ravishing well. Heck, the ending itself didn’t follow any of the paths I view it would catch, and that’s the kind of surprise I like.

The artwork retains the style and feel presented in the first volume, and keeps the quality up as well. This is particularly impressive due to the titanic number of changes in scenery in this volume, which was undoubtedly a lot more demanding of the animation team. Since the finalists consist of a smaller field of only a handful of racers, there’s also a bit more emphasis assign towards developing them as well.

This was a grand conclusion to a fun title that is definitely worth a search for, if this sort of present is your thing. Obvious ragged elements are tranquil lacking, and there’s nothing in the scheme of blood and gore or fan service; so steer positive if those are distinguished to you. The fable gets a bit darker this time around, but not to a mammoth degree, and not to the point it will negatively execute younger viewers. Like the last volume, this one is also presented in dub only, but it is a strong dub, and international production was the goal of the creative team.

I first saw this movie on HBO encourage in 1982, and it struck me as the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never made. The Soundless Partner is a deft mixtue of suspense and humor, with enough twists to preserve one guessing until the very extinguish. I traditional to fill it on LaserDisc, and the film was grainy and the colors rather old. I am glad to characterize that the film has outmoded well, and the colors on this dvd are far richer than they were on Laser or HBO. The grain is smooth there, but it is not a distraction. If you like suspense films and have not seen his movie, you owe it to yourself to glimpse it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Silent Partner! Click Here

One last word: I wish Amazon would not allow reviews for a product prior to its release. There are a number of reviews here that were written long before the DVD release ( April 3) . The film is, in fact, presented in a widescreen (1.85:1) aspect ratio. The veil is abominable, and whoever designed it Obviously never saw the film, but what is contained within the case is well worth watching. I wish people had the sense and integrity to actually conception a product prior to posting a review of it.

The Peaceful Partner is a suspenseful, well done thriller with some engrossing twists and turns. Guaranteed to fill the attention of the viewer throughout. Very recent. Convincing performances by Gould as a milque toast bank manager “gone dreadful” and his nemesis Plummer, a masochistic killer and bank robber. Nudity and some homely violence. Highly recommended, but for adult viewing.

Like many people who have seen this film, I saw it when I was a kid in the early 1980s on HBO. The station revolves around a young school teacher and the children of various ages that she teaches in a schoolhouse in Australia. The teacher and the children are kidnapped by men wearing masks who are planning on holding their victims for a hefty ransom and perhaps a miniature “fun” with the teacher and the eldest girl. The movie is suspenseful and chubby of action as the victims rush from one holding place to another until the destroy when they retract a stand, perform a fortress, and catch things into their acquire hands.

Scenes from this movie have stuck with me my whole life. I had nightmares for weeks about the masked bandits coming after me and for awhile I could never spy at a Daffy Duck shroud the same again. I also vividly remember the students and teacher making a last stand at the stale cave where they made their fortress. I was always impressed by how crafty those group of kids were and always hoped I could be as cunning in a similar set.

This is a gigantic movie. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to obtain. It’s rather rare on video, video stores unbiased don’t carry it (I’ve looked in over 20 different ones and not one carries it), and I search the cable guides weekly but haven’t seen it listed since around 1990. Hopefully, the stunning folks at HBO will wise up and re-release this film on VHS and DVD soon.

I first saw this movie on cable TV (I’m handsome distinct) about 7 or 8 years ago! I was most likely in the 4th or 5th grade. It was absolutely dazzling and created all kinds of suspense in my mind. Was the young woman and her students going to die or we’re they along for a defective joy hasten? I have been looking for this movie for the 7 or 8 years since I’ve seen it. Until about 2 weeks ago, a friend has enlightened me with the title of this movie!! I was asking all sorts of people about it and describing all that I had remembered, but didn’t even know the title! WELL, IF YOU WANT A Broad MOVIE TO Behold, THIS IS THE ONE! I hope to GOD, it gets re-released again….can we email the distributer? What’s their name? Thanks……

MGM released a DVD edition of “The Righteous, the Terrible and the Grisly” in the unhurried 1990s, but it had few extras, a mono soundtrack, and a scratched print. Finally, MGM has given Sergio Leone’s Western anecdote the double-disc special edition it deserves. The print is restored and as sure as I’ve ever seen it, the sound is now an improbable 5.1 Surround (listen to the glass falling off Tuco after he springs through the window in the opening sequence!) nineteen minutes of footage from the Italian new have been restored, and the discs are packed with extras. Even the packaging is great: a sturdy interlocking box, with the DVDs kept in the upper and bottom parts of the two lids. Also inside the box are cards containing posters for the film in five different countries.

The film, like most of the European Westerns of the 1960s, was critically disregarded in its day. The Novel York Times said of it: “the most expensive, pious, and repellent movie in the history of its exclusive genre. There is scarcely a moment’s respite from the harm.” It’s fantastic how people missed the brilliance of this movie, which turned Western conventions upside down in such a wonderfully bizarre, European method. Now the film is considered a classic, and only Sergio Leone’s hold “Once Upon a Time in the West” (another immense 2 DVD situation, by the plot) has more respect in the genre. Leone’s weird style — stretched out time, obsession with close-ups and rude wide-shots, focus on rituals, and exhaust of Morricone’s wild and avant-garde win — are all in chunky force in this myth of three treasure-seekers searching for a cache of gold coins on the Texas-New Mexico border during the Civil War. The implacable and unflappable ‘hero’ Blondie (Clint Eastwood), the crazy droll bandit Tuco (Eli Wallach), and the calculating heinous sadist Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef) substandard each other’s paths amidst the senseless violence of the war. Leone perfectly contrasts the self-interested men with the greater backdrop of the tragedy of war. It’s a strangely emotionally affecting characterize despite its focus on three men who are quiet from normal society and seem not to care about anything but money. So many individual scenes stand out for their virtuosity that the movie a parade of “greatest hits.” Most astounding of all is “The Ecstasy of Gold” sequence where Tuco dashes madly through a cemetery, looking for the grave that might maintain the gold. Morricone’s music here is especially overwhelming.

Chances are you’ve seen the film and fancy it. What about the recent scenes and the extras?

Nineteen minutes of footage have been restored that were never shown in the American prints. The scenes integrate perfectly into the film, and after seeing them once, you won’t be able to imagine they were ever missing. Among the scenes are Angel Eyes visiting a destroyed fort; Tuco hiring bandits to aid him go Blondie; Blondie and Angel Eyes having a face-to-face when they first location out together to derive the gold; and some extra conversation between Tuco and Blondie in the desert. However, these scenes were never dubbed into English in the 1960s. Therefore, the DVD producers had to newly dub them. Eli Wallach and Clint Eastwood do their acquire voices. An actor named Simon Prescott does the imitation of the deceased Lee Van Cleef. Admittedly, Wallach and Eastwood no longer sound the same, but I couldn’t imagine someone else imitating their voices — it couldn’t have been done any other contrivance. Prescott is attractive trustworthy as Angel Eyes, if a bit more gravelly.

The extras…

Disc 1 has audio commentary by Richard Shickel, a film historian who wrote Eastwood’s biography and also did commentary on Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in America” DVD. His comments can be resplendent dry, and he focuses mostly on Leone’s style and techniques instead of on background information on the filming itself. Nonetheless, there are many intriguing insights, and Shickel manages to say a lot during the three-hour running time.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Extended Cut! Click Here

Most of the extras are on Disc 2:

“Leone’s West” — A 20-minute documentary about the making of the film. Includes interviews with Shickel, producer Alberto Grimaldi, author of the English dialogue Mickey Knox, and best of all, Eastwood and Wallach. There’s some very intriguing info and memories here, mostly from Knox and the two actors.

“The Leone Style” — A 23-minute documentary, really unbiased an extension of the first one. It spends more time on Leone’s current techniques. The same interviewees appear here.

“The Man Who Lost the Civil War” — A 14-minute documentary that was produced separately from the DVD. It makes no mention of the movie, but is about its historical backdrop: the disastrous General Sibley campaign in Texas. Sibley appears in the film briefly, and this short documentary gives the viewer an principal insight into the world of Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes.

“Reconstructing The Valid, the Dreadful and the Frightful” — An 11 limited study into the painstaking work keen with fixing the describe and sound, restoring the nick scenes, and re-dubbing it.

“Il Maestro: Ennio Morricone” — 8 minutes; mostly an interview with music scholar John Burlingame about the film’s derive. At the kill of the feature, you can decide to listen to an audio-only twelve-minute lecture by Burlingame that provides a grand more in-depth analysis of the music.

“Deleted Scenes” — Two scenes couldn’t go attend into the film. The extended torture scene had a damaged negative, so here it is in its rougher region. An apparently lost scene is reconstructed through text, stills, and clips from the French trailer.

Finally, there’s a gallery of posters, the fresh trailer, and MGM tossing in some gratuitous advertising for their other films.

Don’t miss this DVD. Not only is it one of the tall action films and one the tremendous westerns, but it’s the kind of release that the DVD format was invented for!

“The Fine, the Unpleasant and the Frightful” is Sergio Leone’s narrative masterpiece. While it is fragment of his Spaghetti Western Trilogy( all three films have different characters and plots), the film stands on its bear and really shows you how fine a movie can really be. This movie has it all. It has action, drama and even some amusing relief in it. It is a timeless classic that is unforgettable. When I first saw it, I was a slight kid and couldn’t truly be pleased it as I can now at age 22.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Extended Cut! Click Here

Blondie (The Man with No Name) isn’t your typical honorable guy. He mainly does things that suits his acquire agenda. However, when compared to the murderous Angel Eyes and the greedy Tuco, Blondie is a saint. This chronicle involves bloodshed, shoot-outs, search for esteem, and double-crossing. And it all takes residence while the Civil War is going on, which makes things a lot more “inspiring” for the distinguished three. The West has never been wilder or more unpredictable than it is now. With an wonderful earn, worthy acting, and grand story-telling, this is one memorable film that you will never forget.

As I said in the beginning, the first time I saw this was when I was a tiny kid. When I fair recently purchased this recent edition of the movie, it truly was like I was watching it for the first time. Coming from a guy who isn’t a expansive fan of Westerns (I don’t mind them, but I don’t eye too many of them), I absolutely LOVED this film. In fact, I wanted to give it a standing ovation when it was all said and done due to how moved I was by it. This really is filmmaking at its finest. I wasn’t terribly impressed with Leone’s “Once Upon a Time in America,” but he is absolutely flawless with this astonishing and timeless Western. It is slower than the second film (“For a Few Dollars More”), but I judge that makes this all the better. The construct up of tension is distinguished more point to in this film, and you really collect the sense that these characters are right people. Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach are shining in their roles, and a lot of props need to go to Lee Van Cleef as he is absolutely chilling in his role.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Extended Cut! Click Here

This unusual edition really does the film the justice it deserves. The film has been restored to the director’s unusual vision as powerful as possible, giving you an extra 18 minutes. You will scrutinize the added scenes as the voices have been re-dubbed (the first time you will leer this will throw you, as I believe that specific fraction has the worst re-dubbing, but the other added scenes are done a lot better, even if you serene view it) . The record looks fabulous and the sound is astronomical. Extras included are commentary from Richard Schickel, a couple of documentaries and featurettes, poster gallery, deleted scenes and the modern theatrical trailer. Along with the nice packaging, you catch an 8-page booklet that includes pictures from the film along with Roger Ebert’s most novel review of the film. And, you acquire some mini-posters included inside the packaging as well. A reliable edition of the movie, without inquire of.

“The Superb, the Abominable and the Repugnant” is a pure triumph in filmmaking and should be seen by everybody at least once. Don’t let the fact that this is a Western throw you. I contemplate this can be enjoyed by everybody, and even by those who are not astronomical fans of Westerns. A film filled with authentic emotion and action, this is one that shouldn’t be missed by anyone. I Care For this movie, and I cannot divulge that enough. -Michael Crane

Ok, first of all, the movie is done as well as it could have been. It does leaves out some facts that the book felt was principal to include. But miniscule things must be omitted. They did the best job possible that they could have done to eliminate less principal residence lines. The opening scenes could have been allowed more time, and made it feel less rushed, but it worked out well. The acting in this movie is a certain improvement over those last 3 movies. You will applaud Daniel Radcliffe’s performance. Emma Watson is as great of an fabulous actress as she has always been, and I quiet believe that she is underused. Her scenes at the Yule Ball were awe-inspiring. The effects, visual and CG, are incredible. You can feel as if you are there just now. Ralph Fiennes plays Voldemort beautifully and sends chills down your spine and makes you loath him from his first second on conceal. Miranda Richardson really hit the nail on the head with Rita Skeeter. Her scenes are some of the funniest of the entire movie. The Director of this installment of the highly successful Harry Potter series was Mike Newell. He does an outstanding job. There are some scenes that are so cinematically wonderful. The overall feel of the film is without a fast-paced action thriller. You dismay for Harry’s life every second of the film. I was thoroughly impressed with this film, and with the fifth book being my current, I am praying that the film works wonders.

Games, AND Worthy MORE

P.S. It doesn’t matter that Hermione’s dress is Pink instead of Blue. It does matter that Harry’s eyes are supposed to be green, when they are Blue in the movies!

In this forth instalment in the ever accepted Harry Potter series based on the unique by JK Rolwling we behold Harry used in many ways, he must over arrive three deadly tasks, face a fully formed Lord Voldermort and possibly the most horrifying task of all for the 14 year aged Harry, he must salvage himself a date for the Yule Ball!

The performance of the trio in the Goblet of Fire is improbable, every scene seemed to be executed perfectly and the on hide chemistry between the young stars is evident. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) reaches unique heights in this movie perfectly portraying the melancholy adolescent Harry has become; he faces the novel emotional roles in the movie with confidence and enthusiasm, like wise for Radcliffe’s young co-stars Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) Once again we notice terrific performances from the likes of Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) and Robbie Coltraine (Hagrid) as well as meeting some recent faces amongst the students, including students from two other magical academies who join the students at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to participate in the Tri-Wizard Tournament! Another highlight of this marvellous movie is Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal of Lord Voldermort which can be rather alarming even to an adult!

I maintain this movie to be of an worthy standard not only due to the charismatic trio, but also thanks to the special effects of this movie. We witness many tantalizing creatures including a ferocious fire breathing dragon (which Harry must fight armed with nothing but his wand!) and while watching you can truly forget that these creatures were created using blue cover and you can honestly maintain that you are in this world, that it truly exists honest tedious closed doors. This is very accurate to the novels making this a movie every Potter fan can relish and indeed fans of spectacular plots and mind-blowing special effects alike can indulge in this, making the Goblet of Fire a movie for all the family! Overall I would call this movie riveting and n absolute gem of the movie world. You do not want to miss this shiny share of film history, no DVD collection would be complete with out it! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire astounding 5 stars!

I don’t gaze many anime like this. In fact, any gain of entertainment is well-behaved of doing what Gankutsuou is and has been doing since it’s release. And what is it doing? Well, it objective keeps getting better, even halfway through the series. You interrogate a wall to go up by this point, but not with Gankutsuou. The suspense keeps rising, the intricate location gets deeper, and the characters are beginning to assert their truest emotions. Yet Gankutsuou is doing all this at a brisk pace–hell, the series itself starts halfway through Dumas’ recent work, lawful when the Count is unprejudiced beginning his space for revenge and not during his time in prison or his childhood. I believe if Gankutsuou keeps this up, it may actually push sure fans away because of unbiased how intense it actually is.

In this, the third volume, the Count finally begins targeting those responsible for putting him away. Under the guise of a apt neighbor, he infiltrates the highest of France’s society and slowly forces his region onto others. Meanwhile, Albert faces his occupy problems, mostly dealing with all the different modes of love; friendship, proper care for, fraudulent treasure, and his fill personal feeling. During all of this, people die and lives are set aside into vulgar exertion. I despise to utter anymore of the situation so I’ll leave it that.

GONZO seems to know what makes a capable anime, and they keep a lot into the anime that they know will succeed. Like Samurai 7 and Last Exile, Gankutsuou makes quite an impression. It has an artistic style all its hold, which is both mesmerizing and startlingly attractive at times. The intention in which the memoir is presented, with very minute care to what may be taboo or not, is kind of refreshing. The feeble themes that makes this anime 16+ is what makes this anime gigantic. It directly targets a more venerable audience. I’d recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys darker anime and apt story-telling. If I could, I’d recommend this to everyone but the worn situations can be a bit disturbing to younger audiences. I will, however, aid any anime fan sixteen or older to prefer up this series: it may raze up being the next expansive anime to impact the American industry.

This is a luscious vintage movie that has had several remakes, the most new being “You’ve Got Mail” with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Having seen both versions, this 1940 film has got it beat. Beautifully directed by Ernst Lubitsch, this is a charming, romantic comedy that sets the standard for this genre of film.

The premise of the film is simple. In Budapest, Hungary, a young woman advertises for a pen pal, with the proviso that each are to remain anonymous. A young man responds to her ad, and they open corresponding and topple in admire through the mail. Unbeknownst to them, these two amorous correspondents, Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) are co-workers in a leather goods shop owned by Hugo Matuschek (Frank Morgan of Wizard of Oz fame) . Unfortunately, they do not appear to rep along, and the words flit snappily and angry between them at times.

There is also a strong sub-plot in this film, enchanting the cuckolding of Mr. Matuschek by his wife of twenty two years. It is a sub-plot that causes a greatly anguished Mr. Matuschek to turn on an employee whom he holds most dear. This sets in to motion a sequence of interconnecting events and revelations that work beautifully, setting the film for its final resolution between the two main protagonists, Kralik and Novak.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Shop Around the Corner! Click Here

James Stewart gives a terrific performance as Kralik, the working stiff who is impartial looking for the accurate girl and finds her where he least expected. Stewart always shines when playing the classic Everyman. Margaret Sullavan, as Novak, gives a pert and sassy performance that belies her longing for romance in her life and for her knight in lustrous armor. Her captivating tongued banter with Kralik disguises an attraction that even she does not fully understand. As they say, there is a dazzling line between savor and disapprove.

Frank Morgan gives a well-nuanced, scene stealing performance as Matuschek, the shopkeeper whose heart is initially broken on a number of fronts. In the extinguish, he rights what went bad and finds some surcease for his psychic injure by bringing some happiness to another person. Felix Bressart, as the grand Pirovitch, Kralik’s friend and co-worker, and Joseph Schildkraut, as the unctuous Ferenc Vadas, a co-worker whom Kralik detests, are also to be lauded for their performances. William Tracy, as the indefatigable Pepi Katona, the store messenger on the develop, is absolutely enjoyable.

This is a masterfully directed film, with extraordinary performances by the entire cast. It is a film to be remembered and added to one’s personal collection. Bravo!

This is my all-time approved romantic comedy (and I am a frail film fan) . YOU’VE GOT MAIL is OK, but the fresh film makers had to upgrade Hanks’ character to manufacture him rich and threw in unnecessary sexual complications for both characters, thereby detracting from the main position. IN THE Obedient Broken-down SUMMERTIME, the Judy Garland musical version of the same place, has the acrimony between the two main characters so strong that it is completely fantastic when they suddenly drop in savor. Only this movie has the perfect touch throughout. The makers of the stage musical, SHE LOVES ME, wisely stuck with the SHOP AROUND THE CORNER location and produced a most palatable present.Stewart and Sullavan design a noble team, with objective the factual balance in their developing relationship to design the ending not only possible, but even inevitable. The supporting cast is nearly perfect, especially the always good Frank Morgan. Felix Bressart, as Pirovich, and Joseph Schildkraut, as the arrogant but slippery villain, are a delight to notice.Don’t impartial rent this movie–buy it! You will want to see it again and again. And each time will seem as unusual as the first, because there isn’t a fake notice in the whole film.

For pure, unadulterated, visceral entertainment, the “Lone Wolf and Cub” series can’t be beat. The acting, directing, the screenplays, and the cinematography are all top notch. The action sequences have to be seen to be believed. Each and every film feature loads of “money shots”. Fans of Tarantino will immediately peep where he drew grand of his inspiration for the “Ruin Bill” series. I suspect that these movies were an influence on “Grand Python and the Holy Grail” as well. Another exiguous known fact is that the manga that this is based upon was also the inspiration for “Road to Perdition”.

People with no experience with Japanese cinema will probably accept these movies to be very bizarre the first time they gaze them. They depict a culture whose morals and values are quite different from Western standards. Its not unusual in these movies for someone to demolish, or commit suicide, for reasons not easily comprehended. Examples: in Volume 2, a cult of female ninjas brutally dismember and extinguish one of their allies, fair to reveal a point (that they’re edifying fighters) . In volume 6, one thug after another joyfully sacrifice their lives in order to assist a princess perfect her killing technique. In volume 3, following a brutal rape and destroy, a Samurai attempts to back the criminals cloak up their atrocity. His actions are depicted as kindly behavior.

The main character, Ogami Itto, can only be described as an anti-hero. An assassin by trade, he describes himself as harmful, a demon, “one who walks along the crossroads of Hell”. He will ruin anyone for 500 pieces of gold, even women and children. The opening scene in the first film sets the tone of the series, when Ogami, the official executioner of the Shogun, brutally decapitates a toddler. Even so, he is portayed throughout the series as a very sympathetic, sterling character. You will fetch yourself rooting for him and his son.

I can’t say enough favorable things about these movies. They are so satisfying on every level. You’ll gain a bustle at the over-the-top scenes of violence. You may even inaugurate to ask your Westernized notions of morality. Be cautioned though: these movies are not for the squeamish. Volume 1 and 3, in particular, feature very disturbing depictions of rape and kill. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

“Lone Wolf and Cub” is the pinnacle of Asian grindhouse cinema and the most action-packed and downright frosty series of samurai films ever made. The violence is brutal, the sex (both forced and consensual) is plentiful, the characters are memorable, and there is a lot of subtle humor and graceful Japanese culture to be enjoyed as well. I cannot recommend these six films enough.

Beginning as the Shogun’s personal executioner, our anti-hero Ogami Itto is framed by the jealous and ambitious Yagyu clan’s shadow ops; his wife murdered in the process. In his rage, Itto takes his young son, Daigoro, and declares them to be demons, apart from the world of men to live as assassins for hire. His necessary target: the head of the Shadow Yagyus, a decrepit former warrior known as Retsudo. Along the scheme he encounters hidden ninja and other Yagyu warriors, deadly kunoichi, clan heads in need of his services, agreeable villagers, prostitutes, yakuza, Retsudo’s skilled offspring, and many more, most of whom will either be diced up by his sword, or by his enemies’. Thankfully, Lone Wolf and Cub are more than ready for whatever comes their diagram. Ogami Itto pushes his son around in a modified baby cart that is packed bulky of hidden surprises for anyone who wishes to acquire his head. And nobody is his equal with a sword. Nobody. Amusingly, Daigoro manages to rack up a miniature body count of his fill and embarks on his possess minute adventures from time to time too.

The first film “Sword of Vengeance” focuses on Ogami Itto’s first clashes with the Shadow Yagyu clan; playing a bloody game of chess as the disgraced samurai embarks upon his demon’s dawdle by outwitting Retsudo and escaping to the originate road. “Baby Cart at the River Styx” is my celebrated film of the series and features a deadly band of lady shinobi (kunoichi), and a mission which pits Lone Wolf and Cub against a trio of skilled and safe warriors with brutal weapons who have been hired to protect his target. “Baby Cart to Hades” (best title ever!) has Itto sacrificing his beget body to protect a lowly prostitute in need and features one of the greatest action sequences ever filmed as our (anti) hero single-handedly battles an entire force of Yagyu troopers and kills ever last one. Awesome. “Baby Cart in Exertion” features a daring female samurai with tattoos who fights topless (for distraction, peek? ) . In order to retrieve the information famous to his mission in “Baby Cart in the Land of Demons” Lone Wolf and Cub must past the deadly tests save forth by five of the clans retainers who can appear anywhere at any time. Lastly “White Heaven in Hell” pits Ogami Itto and son against a Yagyu clan desperate to finally avenge their shame by ending their lives. Lord Retsudo orders every person who helps or even speaks to them to be establish to death. As Itto flees civilization into the frozen mountains, Retsudo sends his supernaturally-powered ninja to stalk him while the remainder of the clan’s army is brought up for the slay game. All of these films are must-sees for martial-arts and action fans.

The bonus features include many trailers, particularly for Zatoichi films (Shintaro Katsu -who played the legendary blind swordsman- produced the first three films and cast this brother, Tomisaburo Wakayama, as Ogami Itto) . Each disc also features extensive and informative notes about Japanese history and culture to wait on attach some of the events in the films in perspective. Well-behaved stuff.

If you’re looking for unrelenting action, brutal gore, a protagonist who is an unstoppable bada$#, and a tale that has coolness around every corner then this is a series you must watch into. It’s a gargantuan area to originate if you’re looking to procure into samurai films and this space belongs in the DVD library of all professing to be fans of the genre. Take these films and enter the Crossroads to Hell.

I have heard about this movie (I live in the Netherlands) and it was not available anywhere in Europe. I did not want to wait untill it will be screened on dutch television, so I bought it. I am glad to, it fits my collection of top documentaries. The suspense of the documentary and the astonishing myth got me a bit in doubt if it is a accurate documentary or a fictional one. It does not matter. It is even more realistic then the Blair Witch project, with the sizable contrast that this could be and is probably an precise documentary. Anyway, I heard rumours in Amsterdam about the Mole People film and how hard it is to accept it. Now i am fragment of the Mole People society?

This movie can be compared to Alien Autopsy to a degree.

You actually approach to terms with the fact that there is another

civilization out there, unlike that which you know…

…only disagreement, of course, is that Alien Autopsy was spurious.

The Mole People are actual. Now, everyday when I wake up, I think

that we’re not alone. There is another civilization where there
